JOBS IN HEALTHCARE ON THE RISE
The overwhelming consensus is that a career in the healthcare industry will continue to dominate over other occupations for at least the next ten years. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are going to be 2.8 million healthcare jobs created in the next few years, a 26% increase between now and 2008. When comparing this to the average for all industries, which is a 16% increase, it is clear that the medical field will be growing much faster than almost any other industry. And because healthcare is one of the largest industries, it provides Americans with more than 11 million jobs and medical employment will account for 13% of all wage and salary positions created between 2000 and 2010. Healthcare boasts 9 out of the top 20 occupations projected to grow most quickly over the next decade.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has even more encouraging news for those who wish to join the Healthcare industry:
As the economy fluctuates and unemployment rises and falls, one thing remains constant: Those with job-specific skills are better able to weather the storms and get ahead during the good times. While it is well documented that a college education can enhance one's marketability and earning power, there are other ways to achieve those goals. Hands-on training in high demand areas such as healthcare is a very viable means to that end. An individual with no experience can gain valuable training on a full or part time schedule and be job ready in months. It clearly does not take years of college, irrelevant courses, and tens of thousands of dollars to get the skills to be a well respected member of the healthcare team.
For those who need training to either advance their careers, or to begin a new career in the medical field, healthcare training is not difficult to acquire. In fact, one of New England's most respected healthcare training schools is right here in southern Maine.
